It came straight from the horse’s mouth.
“Sanay na kami!”
This was a GMA executive’s short, but not sweet, reply when asked to comment about comedian Vice Ganda’s joke during It’s Showtime.
During the “Wit Lang” portion of Miss Q and A, Vice Ganda asked a contestant this rhetorical question: “Kung sinasabi na ang GMA ay where you belong, bakit sila naglilipatan?”
He was referring to former Kapuso stars who transferred to ABS-CBN and became Kapamilya artists after their contracts expired.
After the laughter died down, he quipped, “Charot lang.”
Two of the segment’s judges were Bela Padilla and Karylle, who both came from GMA 7 and moved to the Kapamilya network.
“Ay, sorry Bella, na-affect ka ba? Sorry, Karylle,” he quickly apologized to Bela and Karylle, which the two accepted.
After the incident, the hashtags #TNT2Q1Audition Song and #MissQandA trended in Twitter.
The aforementioned GMA executive did not want to blow up the issue and instead retorted, “Magme-mention pa ba kami ng mga artists na galing dito including him (Vice)?”
Vice Ganda, Jose Marie Borja Viceral in real life, hosted the Kapuso variety show, Comedy Central Market, back in the late 90’s under the moniker, Rica Reyes. He was a stand-up comedian in comedy clubs before becoming a Kapamilya star.
Previously, Vice Ganda was widely criticized for his jokes about personalities starring in hypothetical adult flicks. In one of his r4p3 japes, he mentioned the GMA 7 reporter Jessica Soho as a starrer. This didn’t sit well with women’s rights groups and other celebrities since r4p3 is no laughing matter.
Someone reportedly gave unsolicited advice to the comedian: “Sana huwag muna niyang ibino-broadcast sa mikropono ang mga gusto niyang sabihin kung hindi siya sure o kung sa tingin niya ay may mao-offend siya.”
