An airline passenger, Jho Cabagyo, experienced something unfavorable when she came home to the Philippines last August 6. Thousands of her hard-earned money went missing when her baggage was forcibly opened.
In the viral Facebook post, Cabagyo shared that she and her girlfriend took the Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight bound to Manila from Singapore. It was the cheaper option compared to Singapore’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines.
There was no delay with the schedule, and their flight went smoothly. Until they came to pick up their baggage.
Cabagyo said that they brought a total of 4 suitcases and only got 3 of these. They were able to find the 4th suitcase, but the padlock was already gone. She immediately checked the contents and discovered that her money was gone!
They proceeded to baggage assistance department. However, no one took notice of the harried couple so Cabagyo flew off the handle. They were entertained but the staff explained that there is a procedure in reporting the incident.
Cabagyo wanted to know why this incident still happens inside the airport, but no one could answer her query. The department finished a report and said that PAL’s claim department will contact the couple instead.
The airport police also assisted Cabagyo and let them check the CCTV for any inconsistencies or damning evidence. Their suitcase was left for more than 10 minutes, after which, airport surveillance didn’t cover the next part. PAL reportedly handles the monitoring in another segment since it’s in their possession.
The couple was advised to coordinate with PAL about the incident. It seems that Cabagyo was not hopeful for the return of her money.
Netizens had mixed reactions to Cabagyo’s post, but most were sympathetic. Others slammed Cabagyo for putting money in their check-in baggage, despite repeated warnings from airport authorities to never leave valuable items in bags.
Cabagyo ended the post with a photo of another passenger who also lost valuable items in her suitcase. It was also forcibly opened.
