Comedian Vice Ganda is in hot water again for one of his jokes. This time, the butt of his joke was investigative journalist, Tony Calvento.
After hearing the comedian’s quip, Calvento said that he would file cases against Vice Ganda and the noontime show, It’s Showtime.
The comedian at fault immediately personally called Calvento and apologized. However, the latter still demanded a public apology to put him [Vice Ganda] in his place.
“Just because you’re a famous host, you can make fun of anyone,” Calvento wrote in a Facebook post.
The day after the kerfuffle, Billy Crawford, one of the show’s hosts, read Vice Ganda’s written apology.
It went:
“Ang tanging intensyon ko ay magbigay-payo sa aming contestant na magtiwala sa sarili at sa kanyang kakayahan. Again, my sincerest apologies to Tony Calvento. Malaki po ang respeto ko sa inyo bilang isang journalist, kaibigan, at kapamilya.”
Vice Ganda couldn’t personally read the letter on-air since he was in South Korea for his concert. However, he will apologize on the show’s episode on Wednesday, August 16.
The journalist was insulted after the comedian TV host compared a Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) finalist to Calvento.
In the episode, Vice Ganda said the allegedly offensive statement when TNT finalist John Saga told the hosts that he uploads singing videos online without showing his face. Saga was afraid of being bashed for his looks.
Vice Ganda replied with, “That is a gift… your face. Kahit gaano kalaki ‘yan, kahit kamukha mo si Tony Calvento, mukha mo ‘yan kaya dapat proud ka.”
Of course, netizens had mixed reactions with what happened.
This wasn’t the first time Vice Ganda got called out by a journalist for his sassy remarks on appearance. In 2013, the TV host apologized to Jessica Soho, whose name he dragged in a rape joke during his concert.
Aside from Soho, human rights groups also decried the comedian’s joke about rape, something that people should not take lightly.
