A netizen shared her frustrations in a viral Facebook post, over the alleged inaction of these nurses at a hospital in Naic, Cavite. She accused these nurses of turning away her sister and sickly baby nephew after they arrived at the emergency room.
All because her sibling had no money to pay for medical care.
The incident occurred on August 27th at around 3PM. According to the viral post, the nurses stationed at the emergency room were happily eating ice cream when the netizen’s sibling rushed inside to admit her little boy. The young boy had been constantly expelling waste and was severely dehydrated.
A male nurse came forward and asked the sister if she had money to pay for the hospital services. The sister said she didn’t have any money.
The male nurse said: “Baka mabigla ka sa babayaran dito.”
A female nurse took one look at the sickly nephew, said he looked very pale and dehydrated. That’s when the netizen’s sister was told to bring the sickly baby boy to a public hospital instead – turning away the panicking mother and the young baby.
Instead of helping her sister, the nurses gave her a referral and sent her on her way. Tragically, the baby passed away while on the way there.
“Every Filipino, regardless of status in life, should have equal access to health care… the law states that all cases should be treated and admitted, if necessary, by a hospital,” former Health Secretary Enrique Ona once said in a similar case.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragic incident.
